In the precast concrete sector formworks are systems of moulds or slabs designed to support freshly poured concrete until it hardens. Typically, formworks are temporary structures, but some of the elements used in the process are absorbed and remain integral parts of the construction.

Formworks allow the concrete to be shaped before it sets, and are primarily used for foundations, walls and columns.

Accessories for formworks include the bars or spacers used to connect and secure the formworks, also known as Dywidag formwork rods.

Dywidag system formwork rods or bars always provide a high level of security and reliability to the concrete structure. These systems are equipped with various anti-corrosion methods that significantly extend their service life on any construction project. The selection of the best materials and components ensures high-performance work.

In addition to these bars or spacers, within the formwork we required other elements that guarantee watertightness to prevent concrete leaks or surface defects. To ensure this, a series of formwork accessories are used, such as tubo-fix, corrugated pipes, cones, and others.

• To guarantee a good finish on the concrete structure, we must ensure that the materials we use for each job are clean and in good condition. If, on the contrary, these accessories have remnants of concrete from their previous use, they can leave marks on the new structure.
• To prevent concrete from sticking to metal formworks, the general practice involves applying form release oil to the inner surface. This chemical product acts as a release agent, facilitating the removal of temporary formwork elements by preventing adhesion. Before carrying out this phase, we must ensure that the concrete has fully set and not remove the moulds too soon.
• Finally, once the temporary structures have been removed, whether they are moulds or formwork panels, the entire surface must be cleaned for the next job. Metal accessories only need clearing with pressurized water and nothing else. On the other hand, in the case of wooden accessories, we should apply oils after cleaning to keep them in good condition for as long as possible.

>Wedges and shims for chocking or levelling are used when working on uneven ground and when you have to shim slabs, pillars, beams, walls or any precast element. Especially designed to have great compression strength.

How can you ensure the integrity of precast parts?

Precast concrete parts, just like all other materials, are affected by vibrations, friction or impacts during handling at the factory, on site or during transport.

These elements are especially designed to prevent damage during the entire process, beginning with the storage of slabs, beams, walls, etc., and subsequently during transport to a worksite for installation.

Do safety standards have to be complied with on any worksite?

Yes. At all worksites and factories, workers are exposed to a constant number of hazards, such as exposed rebar, areas without railings, changes in height, etc.

These risk factors are unavoidable. Therefore, regulations in force must be complied with, and safety elements must be used to improve visibility and enhance safety. These elements include rebar safety caps, post bases for the subsequent installation of guardrails, etc.

Risks are drastically reduced by correctly using these safety and signage elements on construction sites.

Metal profiles

Triangular metal profiles of various sizes ranging from 7 mm to 30 mm, which are mainly used at precast concrete plants for making false joints or chamfered edges. They are used on large precast tables for precasting, moulds and formworks.

They are fastened by welding to the tables.

PVC or Rubber Chamfer and Trapezoidal Strips

PVC chamfer strips that can be triangular, trapezoidal, curved, with a tail, without a tail, etc.
There are a wide variety of chamfer strip models available to cover any construction project. Due to the composition of these elements, they are resistant to the bleaches or solvents that could be found on a construction project, in addition to having certain flexibility that allows them to adapt to any corner.

They are fastened with glue or nails.

Magnetized profiles or trapezoidal strips

Magnetized profiles cover the needs of the two preceding categories. They are made of high-quality steel and incorporate magnets. These magnets allow the positioning and fastening time to be drastically reduced, given that with the preceding models (despite costing less), a worker must spend a considerable amount of time on correctly positioning and fastening them.

Magnetized profiles do not have to be welded on tables, thereby considerably extending their useful life.

Especially dsigned for connection with concrete, the sheath is a corrugated metal tube, either circular or rectangular. It is mainly used to join elements of prefabricated concrete.

In addition to guaranteeing adherence with concrete due to its undulated grooves or shapes, it is also an element that protects against corrosion, given that the sheath is manufactured out of galvanized strip. This treatment provides a second layer of protection for prefabricated elements that are exposed to moisture.

To use these sheaths correctly, the following points must be kept in mind:

All sheaths have a standard length of 3000 mm, but at MTT-MAXIM we can supply the desired lengths for any project.

Upon request, we offer the possibility of supplying large diameters, in addition to permanent box-out shutters, with or without a cover.

Reinforcement, in construction terms, is made up of linear parts or bars that are assembled together. To ensure a secure and robust assembly, wire coils were commonly used, which with the aid of pliers were cut and clamped together.

Both the repetitive action and the force required by this traditional method often resulted in injuries, wasted time and required specialised personnel.

Nowadays this process, in the vast majority of prefabricated works and factories, is replaced by the use of reinforcing bars or clips.

Some of the main functions of this consumable are to reduce the time it takes to set up the reinforcement and to provide greater safety and convenience, whether on site or in prefab plants.

But what do you need to do to install them correctly? They have to be installed by means of a section or tool called Barrafix, which with a single movement, compresses and coils the wire in a semi-automatic way. It is so quick and easy that once it has been carried out, traditional methods become a thing of the past.

Depending on the diameter of the reinforcement, use a wire of different lengths, making it possible to tie any reinforcement.

Once the wire is tensioned with the Barrafix, the two heads are automatically cut off leaving only the wire fixed to the reinforcement.

Unlike the above method, MTT-MAXIM’s steel clips are an innovative system that does not require any tools, does not entail any risk and is very easy to use. It is placed with just two fingers, locking the bracket to the upright.

Depending on the diameter of the reinforcement, a greater or lesser length will be used, as they do not need to be cut or manipulated.

The quality of the material from which it is made guarantees the necessary robustness and therefore no unwanted slippage.
